The Arizona Diamondbacks will send rookie Andrew Chafin to the mound against Cleveland this afternoon for his major league debut. Chafin, an Ohio native, was originally assigned to the bullpen for the series.  But after a 3 hour rain delay forced the postponement of yesterdays game, Chafin will get a chance to make his major league debut in front of family and friends.

"“I just can’t believe it,” the 24-year-old hurler said. “You couldn’t have planned it out more perfectly. Given the chance to possibly debut in Cleveland, who would have thought? What are the chances of these two events meeting up, just after I get called up?”"

The Diamondbacks planned to break the young left-hander in easy after calling him up on August 8th but the rain delay changed their plans.

Andrew Chafin grew up in Ohio and went to college at Kent State.  After going 7-1 with a 1.90 ERA for the Golden Flashesin 2011, the Arizona Diamondbacks made him the 43rd overall pick in the 2011 draft. Chafin is 27-20 with a 3.95 ERA in four minor league seasons.

Let’s Play Two!

Because of the postponement, the Diamondbacks and Indians will lock up in a traditional doubleheader today.  Game one at 1:05 pm will feature Rookie Andrew Chafin against Trevor Bauer while game 2 will bw a match up between Lefty Vidal Nuno against the Indians Josh Tomlin.
