ASU Ranks 19th in Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll

For all of our ASU football fans, we are excited to report that your team is ranked 19th in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 that came out Sunday.

This is good news for ASU football because this is the first time since 2008 that the Sun Devils have made the preseason list.

In the past, this hasn’t always been a good thing for the Sun Devils. You see, the last six times they made the AP preseason poll (dating back to 1998) they didn’t finish in the final AP Top 25 poll as they were predicted to. It could be a coincidence, or it could be on of those *insert superstition* here.

The argument could  be made that ASU performs better as the underdog than the favorite. The evidence is there to support this idea. Or you could just think nothing of it and minimize it’s validity.

Either way, this much is true: “The Sun Devils – picked to finish third in the Pac-12 South – are intriguing. The team should have one of the Pac-12’s top offenses, yet one of the conference’s more inexperienced defenses. With 11 days before the season opener against Weber State, no one knows for sure how those two elements will combine, or how it will look on the scoreboard.”

There are conditions that need to be thought about. Can ASU out-score everybody while their young defense learns as game clocks tick? Or will senior quarterback Taylor Kelly orchestrate a go-ahead, fourth-quarter touchdown only to watch the defense give up a defeating score in the final minute?

We will soon see how the ASU Sun Devils fare when the season kicks off.

The Sun Devils are ranked 18th in the Amway Coaches Poll (previously known as the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll).
