Meet Stanley Johnson

The Arizona Wildcats Men’s Basketball Program comes into the 2014-2015 season with high expectations. Losing Aaron Gordon and Nick Johnson to the 2014 NBA Draft, the basketball program welcomes the number #5 high school recruit to campus, he is 6-6 forward Stanley Johnson.

Johnson committed to the University of Arizona back in November of 2013, and since then the hype around the program is nothing but unfinished business. The Wildcats will look to push even further this season after coming up short in the Elite 8 last season.

The 5-star Orange County native Johnson attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California where he put together quite the basketball résumé. He helped the Monarchs go 135-7 and win four state titles. Stanley finished the 2014-2015 season ranked No. 1 nationally by Maxpreps. Over his high school career he complied over 2,200 points and 1,000 rebounds. He has won a few gold medals with the USA Basketball U16 and U17 teams. He finished up his high school basketball career with the Jordan Brand Classic as well as winning MVP at the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Be on the lookout for Johnson this Saturday October 18th for the basketball programs annual Red/Blue game at 3pm in the McKale Center.

With Aaron Gordon gone Johnson might just slide right into place within the Arizona starting five. It will be very hard to contain Johnson with such explosive force and athleticism. He cannot only play the post but he can shoot the three ball. Whether opposing teams try to scout Stanley, well that is their decision. Finding a defender to stop Johnson is going to be the key. Big or small Johnson will most defiantly find a way to get to the hoop.

Be on the lookout for Johnson this Saturday October 18th for the basketball programs annual Red/Blue game at 3pm in the McKale Center. This will be fans first time seeing the basketball program in action in the newly renovated McKale Center.
