Todd Bowles Might Be Gone Next Season, But Where?

You might read the title and think why would the Cardinals fire Todd Bowles? The thing is, they won’t. They will lose him to another team who will pay him top dollar to give him a head-coaching job. The Cardinals have arguably the best head coach in the league in Bruce Arians. Thus they probably won’t give Todd Bowles the head coach job. If the Cardinals Defensive coordiantor wants a shot at being a NFL head coach it will have to be with another team.

True he was given a contract extension until 2017 but with all the success he has had this season another team may make him an offer he can’t refuse. There are multiple teams that will fire their head coach by season’s end and they won’t hesitate to throw money to Bowles to acquire his services.

Clearly Todd Bowles is ready to become a head coach. He has been an assistant in the NFL for 14 years now; with a short stint as the interim head coach for the Dolphins. So assuming Bowles is a hot coaching comidity, lets talk about which teams I think he should go to. I’m going to do the top three so lets go.

San Fransisco 49ers

Let’s be real guys, Jim Harbaugh is done in San Fran. The lost to the Raiders effectively ended their season and the rumors about how the front office and Harbaugh having issues are coming to the surface. They’ll look for a guy who can use the talent already put in place to come and finish the job and win a Lombardi.

Todd Bowles is a brilliant defensive minded coach that can get the most out of his players (just look at how the Cardinals are playing with all their injuries). He’ll get a great offensive coordinator to help get Colin back on track and he would love to have a team that can win now. The problem with this is the 9ers might be looking for an offensive minded head coach not defensive and Bowles might not want to go in the same division as the Cardinals.

 New York Jets

This team is really a challenge and  if Todd Bowles wants to build a team from scratch this is the gig for him. The front seven is above average but the secondary has been awful and the offense is just plain terrible. The Jets still have a lot of cap space so they can use that to build up their team faster than in most teams and Bowles will have a high pick to find his all-star quarterback. The problem with this is the Jets might not want a defensive minded coach and Bowles might not want to join such a bad football franchise with all the instability that has happened there for over the last couple of years.

 Oakland Raiders

This is a wildcard team. We have no idea how much they’re going to invest in going for Harbaugh that they might miss this guy. The defense has some good young pieces in place and they have a lot of veterans on this team. The offense is the real trouble but they appear to have their quarterback of the future in Derek Carr.

Bowles will most likely have the first overall pick with this team and they can sign some more talent to make them a scrappy team. The O-line is the worst spot on this team and they should be able to fix it in a year or two. There are a couple reason Bowles may not be a fit for this team. The Raiders may prefer an offensive minded head coach. Another reason is the instability of this franchise. Bowles might not want any part of this.

 Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are still kind of in the playoff hunt but after losing to the Ravens last week, they’re in a hole. I think if they don’t make the playoffs that they’ll fire Philbin. The defense has been very inconsistent this season playing either great or just awful football. They have a lot of talent on that side of the ball and Bowles will really like that. The offense has some weapons as well but the main issue is the inconsistent play of Tannehill.

This will cause a huge problem already in the get go, figuring out what to do with Tannehill. The Dolphins might actually be looking for a defensive minded coach and they could be the team that’ll throw the most money at Bowles. Like the Raiders though, they could be distracted in trying to get Harbaugh.

A couple teams that might try to get him are the Falcons, Giants, Buccaneers and the Redskins. Why I didn’t put them on this list is because they might still have their head coach when the season is over. Bowles is an excellent coach and deserves to be head coach for any team. I’m not guaranteeing him leaving but its hard to argue with someone taking a job for a promotion.
