Dick LeBeau Won’t Join Arizona Cardinals Staff

It looks like the legendary Dick LeBeau won’t be joining the coaching staff of the Arizona Cardinals after all.

A tweet from Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic said that the hall of famer won’t be joining Bruce Arians’ staff and his future plans still remain up in the air.

Ever since he stepped down as the defensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this month, it looked like LeBeau was pretty much a slam dunk to join the Cardinals staff in some capacity. Arians and LeBeau are of course familiar as both men were on the Steelers staff together for several years.

For whatever reason though, LeBeau won’t be coming here. It’s a shame because even though he’s at advanced age, he would have been a great addition with the departure of Todd Bowles to the Big Apple.

Even if LeBeau would have joined the staff, Arians would still have had to make a decision on who his defensive coordinator was going to be. According to Somers, that position will be filled in-house by someone currently on the staff.

It looks like James Bettcher, who has been outside linebackers coach the past two seasons, is the favorite to win the job. Bettcher was on the Colts staff when Arians was in Indianapolis.
