We are about three months away from the start of the college football season which means preseason rankings are being introduced throughout the nation.

Even though his magazine doesn’t hit the shelves until next month, the well-regarded Phil Steele released his preseason All-American list today. Every year around this time, Steele provides us a with four separate teams on offense, defense and special teams.

While several Pac-12 players made the group, only one member of the Arizona State Sun Devils was named and the player is hardly surprising. You guessed right if you would have said D.J. Foster.

Foster will have a much different role in 2015.  During his first three years in Tempe, Foster played running back but he will be a slot receiver for his senior campaign.

On his list, Steele put Foster on his third team. Pharoh Cooper of South Carolina and Leonte Carroo of Rutgers joined Foster in the receivers group.

Considering that Foster has never been a true receiver during his collegiate career, this goes to show you how many people think Foster’s transition to receiver will be a smooth one. You can include myself in that group.

Over his last two seasons, Foster has had a total of 125 receptions for the Devils. That would lead a lot teams across the nation, but ASU has had the luxury of having Jaelen Strong at wideout over the last two years.

With Strong now headed to the Houston Texans in the NFL, Foster is going to be an even bigger part of the Sun Devils offense this coming season. If this team is to make to make that next step and make a big bowl this year, they are going to need to have Foster at his best.

Steele certainly thinks that Foster will once again be one of the better offensive weapons in the country this coming season. Let’s cross our fingers that he is right.
