Arizona State’s baseball program had their first selection in the 2015 MLB Draft when Brett Lilek was chosen by the Miami Marlins with the 50th overall pick.

Lilek went 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA (66 strikeouts) this season while throwing 78.2 innings for the Sun Devils while holding batters to a .213 batting average (fourth lowest in the PAC-12). In a game in mid-May against Washington State Lilek went seven innings and struck out 11 batters while allowing just one base hit in the process.

Lilek went 10-8 with a 3.05 ERA (7th lowest in the aluminum bat era among pitchers with at least 150 innings pitched) in his career at Arizona State. He was also named to the First Team All PAC-12 team in 2014 and All PAC-12 Honorable Mention in 2015.

This isn’t the first time that Lilek has had his named called during the MLB Draft. He was chosen by the Seattle Mariners in the 37th round when Lilek graduated from high school, but decided to join the Sun Devils instead.

Sun Devil pitchers Ryan Burr and Ryan Kellogg will most likely hear their names called in the next two days of the three-day draft.

Arizona State commit Blake Perkins, OF from Buckeye Verado High School, was chosen 69th overall by the Washington Nationals.
