Following a four-game road sweep against the San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks held a 9-8 record. However, following a 3-9 record over the past 12 games, high hopes for Diamondbacks fans have been squandered yet again.

The Diamondbacks started off the season on a rough patch, starting 3-7 and entered San Francisco with a 5-8 record. Following a four-game sweep the Diamondbacks had a winning record and were in the thick of the National League West race.

Even on April 28th, the Arizona Diamondbacks were still playing competitive baseball and held a 12-12 record. Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks have lost their past five games, including being swept at home to the Colorado Rockies and the first two games of a road-series against the Marlins in Miami. The Diamondbacks are catching the Marlins at a very inopportune time, as the Marlins have now won 9 of their last 10 games.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a bomb off of Rubby De La Rosa on Wednesday night in which the ball hit off of the facing of the upper-deck in left field. The Diamondbacks trailed 4-0 at one point in the game on Wednesday, but a two-run shot by David Peralta cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning, but the comeback would not be fulfilled as the Marlins would go on to win the game 4-3.

The Diamondbacks are just two games into a nine-game road-trip that will take them to Atlanta to play three contests against the Braves and then to Colorado to take on the Rockies for their third series against one another on the young season.

Thankfully for the Diamondbacks sake, the rest of the National League West is playing average baseball at best and they only sit 3.0 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and Giants, who are tied for the division lead. The Diamondbacks are also just 2.0 games behind the Rockies and 0.5 games ahead of the San Diego Padres.

Also, time is on the Diamondbacks side as well. It is still early-May with tons of baseball left to play. Lots can happen in the next 135 games, but the Diamondbacks will have much better elongated success if they turn in more consistent efforts rather than being the streaky team that we have seen over the first month of the year.
