After a three game sweep in Atlanta, the Arizona Diamondbacks headed to the Mile High city for three games against the Colorado Rockies. The Diamondbacks showed off their offense in the 2-1 series win over the Rockies.

With Archie Bradley on the hill, the Diamondbacks took advantage of a big 5th inning to take game one 10-5. A sac-fly scoring Jean Segura put Arizona up early in the first, but Colorado rallied in the bottom half with a Trevor Story double scoring Charlie Blackmon. In the bottom of the 4th the Rockies got to Bradley, scoring three including another story double that plated two runs. With the Diamondbacks down three in the 5th, and two outs in the inning, Segura (5) homered to cut the deficit to two. Three batters later, Jake Lamb (4) blasted a home run to right, giving the Diamondbacks the 5-4 lead. That was not the end of the scoring for the D-Backs, Chris Hermann tripled, scoring one. The 6-4 Diamondbacks lead held until the top of the 7th, when back-to-back singles scored two runs and adding to the Arizona lead; 8-4. The D-Backs extended their lead in the 9th with a Lamb triple that scored one and a sac-fly by Welington Castillo that scored another run. The Rockies had a late rally scoring one run in the bottom of the 9th off a Gerardo Parra single. Bradley (1-0) got the win for the Diamondbacks, going six innings with four strikeouts and allowing four runs.

After a big offensive showing in game one, the Diamondbacks rode the wave of another big inning and an impressive performance from Rubby De La Rosa to win 5-1. Arizona scored four of their five runs in the 6th inning; a double by Chris Owings, a single by Nick Ahmed, a sac-fly by De La Rosa, and a single by Jean Segura all scored runs for the Diamondbacks. The most impressive moment of the game was a Paul Goldschmidt (7) home run that literally went a mile high, deep into left field bleachers in the 7th. The only Rockie run came on a wild pitch in the 8th. De La Rosa (4-4) received the win, going seven and a third allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six.

Looking for the three game sweep, the Diamondbacks got down early, 5-0 after four innings, then 7-1 after six, but rallied to tie the game in the top of the 8th. Their rally came up one run short, losing 8-7. Blackmon hit his second home run of the season to open the scoring for the Rockies, and then added to the Rockie lead with a two RBI single in the 4th. Being down 5-0 in the 6th, Goldschmidt got the D-Backs rally started with a double that scored Ahmed. Colorado came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th, off a Ryan Raburn double that scored two. There was no give up in the Diamondbacks, Chris Herrmann scored two with a double and then Ahmed singled in another run, cutting the Colorado lead to 7-4 after seven innings. In the top of the eighth Yasmany Tomas doubled in a run, flowed by a Hermann triple to score Tomas, then an Owings single that plated Hermann that tied the game at seven. Tyler Clippard was on the mound in the 8th for Arizona, trying to preserve the tie, when Nolan Arenado (13) homered to put the Rockies up 8-7. The top of the 9th went down 1-2-3; Gonzalez Germen (1-0) got the win for his work in the 8th inning for the Rockies. D-Backs’ starter Robbie Ray went four and two thirds innings allowing nine hits and five runs, only three earned.

The Diamondbacks now sit at 17 and 19 heading into a four game home series against another division foe, the San Francisco Giants.
