First half notes on the Week 4 game between the Arizona State Sun Devils and Washington Huskies.

As it stands now, both Arizona State and Washington have two wins and one loss on the season. In a few hours, someone will be back at .500 while the other has a rock-solid 3-1 record. The way things are going right now, it’s really up in the air as to which way it will go. Washington leads Arizona State 17-10 going into the second half.

Below, we’ll look into some of the most notable trends and stats from the first half.

Thankful For Failed Trickery

Had the Sun Devils not picked off Washington’s failed trick play to start the game, they’d be in much worse shape going into halftime. Huskies receiver Andre Baccellia was picked off by Chase Lucas on their first play, setting Arizona State up with golden field position. They scored six plays later to take an early 7-0 lead.

Outside of that, however, they didn’t move the ball all that well. Their next drive, a 12-play series, ended in a field goal but after that, it was a whole lot of nothing.

How About Ruiz?

Brandon Ruiz, Arizona State’s kicker, nailed a deep 48-yard field goal to give them a 10-7 lead. The kick kept him perfect on the year, further proving my point that he may be the best kicker in the nation.

Pound the Rock

Heading into the game, I knew that Arizona State would have to get Eno Benjamin going. After all, his last two games resulted in less than 50 yards combined.

To start the game, they did nothing but feed Benjamin. After the aforementioned interception, Manny Wilkins handed the ball to Benjamin on all six plays of their first drive. On the sixth and final carry, he got into the end zone.

Overall, Benjamin has 18 carries for 78 yards in the first half.

Arizona State will get the ball to start the second half.
