This has been a very busy offseason for the Phoenix Coyotes and it just keeps on getting busier. According to GM Don Maloney, he told the Arizona Republic, that he is refusing to let any other NHL team speak with head coach Dave Tippett. And at this point do you blame Maloney; I mean Tippett has led the Coyotes to greener pastures the past three seasons including a Western Conference Finals run in 2012.
Maloney continued to say, “We’re not thinking about other coaches and that we’re thinking one guy, and that’s all we want.” Maloney will do whatever it takes to keep the head coach in Phoenix to help the franchise keep growing. As mentioned before in other articles, Tippett’s contract is set to expire on June 30th and according to CBC’s Elliotte Friedman he believes the same thing. Management needs to lock up Tippett because other teams such as the Dallas Stars and the Vancouver Canucks have their eyes set on Tippett.
The possibility of Tippett coming back is pretty high because both associate coach Jim Playfair and goalie coach Sean Burke club options were picked up and they made up a huge part of Tippett’s staff. Finally, according to the Arizona Republic’s Sarah McLellan, GM Don Maloney and head coach Dave Tippett are “already close on actual terms” for a new deal.
