On Tuesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks will have left handed pitcher Tyler Skaggs pitching against the St. Louis Cardinals as Brandon McCarthy is still on the disabled list with an injury. Steve Gilbert of MLB.com via his twitter account said that Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson stated that Skaggs will be called up from Triple-A Reno.
The last time Skaggs pitched in the big leagues was on Memorial Day in the doubleheader against the Texas Rangers. In that game Skaggs was impressive striking out nine hitters in six scoreless innings of work. Hopefully Skaggs can pitch the Diamondbacks tomorrow night towards a victory over the Cards as tonight’s pitcher Trevor Cahill got rocked as the Diamondbacks lost 7-1 to St. Louis. In tonight’s game versus the Cardinals, Cahill got lit up for five earned runs and nine hits over five innings of work.
With Triple-A Reno this season, Skaggs has pitched average to say the least with a 5.23 ERA. With Reno, he has a 4-5 record with 54 strikeouts over 51 2/3 innings. In his last start in the minors which was on May 22nd, he gave up five hits and one earned run over 7 2/3 innings while striking out 10 as Reno would get the win that night. There are a lot of expectations for the 21 year old as this past spring he was ranked the No. 12 prospect in baseball by Baseball America.
