Well good news came out of Arizona State University on Tuesday as athletic director Steve Patterson announced that the Sun Devils football team had reached an agreement to keep their game against Notre Dame in 2014 still on the schedule. This game will be a home game at Sun Devil Stadium.

The bad news is there will not be a return game as the Fighting Irish will be dropping the 2017 meeting from the schedule as that game was supposed to take place in South Bend, Indiana. The game that will be happening in 2014 is set for November 8th; originally it was supposed to be played two weeks earlier. But this is a good non-conference matchup for both teams because an independent school such as Notre Dame versus a Pac-12 team like Arizona State is something we don’t get to see often.

In a statement released by the school, Patterson said, “We’re pleased that Notre Dame was able to resolve it’s scheduling issues in a way that allows it to play at Sun Devil Stadium in 2014.” This is big for the Sun Devils because let’s face it the only teams Notre Dame plays out in the west is USC, Stanford, and sometimes BYU. So for Arizona State to pull this off; is a great move for the program and for recruiting.

Finally, this is not the only time these two teams will see each other because this upcoming season they will be playing in Notre Dame’s “Shamrock Series” and the Sun Devils get the opportunity to take on the Fighting Irish on October 5th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
