According to a source that is familiar with the Phoenix Coyotes and Dave Tippett negotiations, they have told FOX Sports Arizona that the team is in talks with head coach Dave Tippett on a new contract. The terms of this contract are not known but this will be a big help to the organization as a whole as they are the talk of the NHL at the moment.
If you remembered, Tippett’s contract expires on June 30th but he wants to make sure that the club is in good hands and wants to spend a little bit more on the payroll to improve this team. At some point you have to want to increase payroll because that is the only way the team is going to get better.
According to FOX Sports Arizona, an announcement on Tippett’s deal could come as soon as this week even though the team would have to get approval from the NHL. It is interesting to see how this will play out over the next couple of weeks as free agency is upon us as the Coyotes need to re-sign goalie Mike Smith and need to make Phoenix look like an appealing place to play.
But don’t forget that the city of Glendale has not yet approved a lease agreement with RSE, which could lead the team possibly going to Seattle but that has yet to happen.
