Tonight, the Arizona Wildcats ran over the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels 58-13 and giving themselves a 2-0 record on the season. The Wildcats were dominating this game from the first quarter on leading 17-0. Again, star running back Ka’Deem Carey did not start tonight for Arizona but it didn’t matter as he had a tremendous game.
Carey had 16 carries for 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns, showing the Pac-12 that he will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Starting in his place was senior running back Daniel Jenkins. Jenkins did his own damage tonight rushing for 79 yards on 17 carries. In total the Wildcats rushed for 397 yards and five touchdowns.
Arizona senior quarterback B.J. Denker was not needed as much in the passing game as he threw for 81 yards but rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Not a lot to speak on for UNLV as quarterback Nick Sherry did not play great; in fact he was 5 of 21 with 95 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Both of his interceptions would be taken back for touchdowns by Arizona’s Jake Fischer and Tra’Mayne Bondurant. One thing to say after tonight’s game is Rich Rodriguez’s team looks dangerous on both sides of the ball.
Arizona will now take on the UTSA Roadrunners on September 14th at 10:30 PM ET on the Pac-12 Network. UTSA has a 1-1 record so far this season.
