Today, according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was limited in practice due to a hamstring. Is this possible injury a concern for the Cardinals? Yes it is but all signs point to Fitzgerald starting on Sunday in the regular season home opener versus the Detroit Lions.
In last week’s game versus the Rams, Fitzgerald played every snap and was pretty productive. He caught eight passes for 80 yards and had two touchdowns. Also in that game, he was targeted 14 times. It seems like quarterback Carson Palmer’s favorite target is Fitzgerald.
A healthy Fitzgerald will be needed this week because we know the Detroit Lions have a nasty front four on defense so having a dependable target in Fitz will make Palmer’s life easier. If Fitzgerald is a little slow on Sunday, the Cardinals have other good wide receivers in Andre Roberts and Michael Floyd who both had good games versus the Rams last week.
The Cardinals need this win on Sunday more than ever because stats show that a team which starts the season 0-2 makes the playoffs 12 percent of the time. If the Cardinals want to go to the playoffs, win this game on Sunday and feed Fitzgerald constantly to open up the field for Floyd and Roberts.
