In the last game of their road trip, the Phoenix Coyotes ended it off on a good note. They defeated the Carolina Hurricanes today 5-3 in an offensive shootout that Coyotes’ fans have to be concerned about on the defensive end.
To begin the game, Mikkel Boedker got the scoring started for the Coyotes as they scored five minutes into the game on the power play. After that, Carolina would go on to score two straight goals, one from Eric Staal, and another one from Riley Nash. The Coyotes’ defense and goalie Mike Smith both looked confused on those two goals.
But in a span of seven minutes, the Coyotes would score twice in the second period to lead the game 3-2 over Carolina. Phoenix would get two goals from Rob Klinkhammer and Lauri Korpikoski. To end the period, Carolina would tie the game up at 3-3 with a Jeff Skinner power play goal.
Lastly, in the third period it was all Coyotes as Klinkhammer would get his second goal of the game and the veteran Shane Doan would get his first goal of the season.
The three stars from today’s game were:
1st star: Rob Klinkhammer
2nd star: Shane Doan
3rd star: Mike Smith
The Phoenix Coyotes are now 4-2 with eight points on the season and will take on the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night at 10:00 pm ET. The Coyotes will see the return of former Anaheim Duck Bobby Ryan.
