Today, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced the three finalists for the Doak Walker Award. The Doak Walker Award is given to the nation’s best running back. The award is named after Doak Walker who was a three time SMU All-American and Heisman trophy winner.
One of the three finalists was Arizona Wildcats running back Ka’Deem Carey. The junior running back definitely deserves the accolade as he has elevated his game this season and has made the Wildcats a fun team to watch this season. This past Saturday against Oregon, Carey broke Arizona’s all-time rushing record.
That is a great accomplishment for the back as it seems like he will be a first round pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
This season Carey has rushed for 1,559 yards and 16 touchdowns. Over his career, he has 3,913 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns. In every game this season except the first game versus Northern Arizona, Carey has rushed for over 100 yards. In two games this season he has rushed for over 200 yards. He just accomplished this feat against Oregon in which he carried the ball 48 times for 206 yards and four touchdowns.
But Carey has some stiff competition as he is competing with Bishop Sankey out of the University of Washington and Andre Williams out of Boston College.
