The Phoenix Coyotes are starting to have weird player transactions this season. First it was Rostislav Klesa going back and forth between the NHL and AHL. Now, it’s Gilbert Brule who has been playing with the Portland Pirates of the AHL this season.

The Phoenix Coyotes announced today that he signed a one-year, two-way contract. This is where the story gets weird. Reportedly, Brule also signed a contract with KHL team Mettalurg Magnitogorsk, they announced this five days ago.

You are probably just as confused as me wondering how did this happen. If it’s all a mistake, then he will be playing for the Coyotes but if it comes out true that he signed in the KHL first. He would have to play there.

The sixth overall pick of the 2005 draft has played solid with the Portland Pirates this season. He has six goals and two assists for eight points. In 33 games with the Coyotes in the 2011-12 season, he had five goals and nine assists for 14 points.

The Columbus Blue Jackets originally drafted Brule.
