The Cardinals won’t have a top-10 draft pick this year unless they decide to trade up. That shouldn’t be too surprising though, as the Cardinals have been pretty bad historically, but never quite bad enough. In fact, we could argue that the team has been more devoid of talent because of Mr. Bidwell’s spending decisions and have overachieved, all things considered.
The last time the Cardinals had the No. 1 pick in the draft was 1958, when they decided to pick King Hill to be their franchise quarterback. They also had the No. 2 pick in the draft and took John David Crow to be their running back. Hill went 2-9 in his only year as a starter and threw 13 picks, before he was jettisoned to Philadelphia to become a punter in 1961.
Crow made four Pro Bowls and led the league in yards per attempt (5.9) and yards from scrimmage (1533) in 1960. He’d finish with 74 career touchdowns, which is currently No. 71 in the NFL’s history.
