At age 36, Arroyo isn’t going to be winning the Cy Young award. What he is going to do is provide a lot of quality starts and some support to the young guys on the Diamondbacks staff. Arroyo came over from the Cincinnati Reds this offseason, after going 14-12 with a 3.79 ERA for them in 2013.
Bronson pitches to contact a little more than I’d like, but he also doesn’t walk many hitters. Over his last two seasons, he’s pitched 404 innings and has walked just 69 hitters. The downside to pitching to contact is giving up home runs. Arroyo led the NL in 2013, allowing 32 of them. He’s No. 2 on the active list, allowing 314 gopher balls for his career.
