Take Arroyo, make him 10 years younger, give him worse control and a heavy sinker and you’ve got Cahill. The 25-year-old went 8-10 with a 3.99 ERA for Arizona in 2013 and led the league in wild pitches, with 17. He walked 65 hitters with just 102 strikeouts in 146.2 innings. That’s the bad part.

The good part is that Cahill does do a good job of keeping the ball down. He’s on a four-year stretch of allowing less than 20 home runs and for his career, he allows less than nine hits per nine innings (8.5, to be exact). With a strong infield behind him and a backstop that isn’t afraid to take a baseball off his arm once in a while, Cahill is quite effective.
