Arizona Wildcats In Contention For Two Top Recruits

Arizona Wildcats coaches Rich Rodriguez and Sean Miller are on the brink of landing two of the top prospects in the country, getting a head start on the 2016 recruiting class.

Rich Rodriguez currently holds the #25 recruiting class in the nation for 2015, while Sean Miller holds the #1 recruiting class in the nation for 2015, both according to 247Sports.

Starting with the more serious list, we take a look at the recruitment of the #1 dual-threat quarterback in the country, Torrance Gibson, who has the University of Arizona, Ohio State, Auburn and hometown Miami (FL) in his final four.

Arizona Wildcats being the great surprise on this list. One, because of the other three names among this list and two, because Arizona hasn’t been seen as a huge contender throughout the recruiting process. But according to Gibson, they’re coming at him pretty hard and he’s heard some great things about the Wildcats.

What’s not to love? Great weather, top of the line facilities, fast-paced offense and so much more. Rich Rodriguez has yet to run an offense with one of his own quarterbacks, inheriting Matt Scott and BJ Denker from Mike Stoops.

With Torrance Gibson, Rich Rod can run his explosive offense with a game-changing quarterback much like he did at West Virginia and Michigan with Pat White and Denard Robinson.

If the Wildcats want to land Torrance Gibson, Rich Rodriguez is going to have to sell the no huddle offense, a dual-threat quarterback’s dream, along with the idea of being a part of the first team in program history to win a Rose Bowl.

Even if Arizona misses out on Torrance Gibson, it shows that Rich Rodriguez can compete for some of the top recruits in the country against some of the most storied programs.

In regards to the next top recruit, 2016’s #5 power forward in the country, TJ Leaf. Leaf came out with his top 10 list via Twitter, which includes Duke, University of Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, SDSU, Texas, UCLA and Xavier.Leaf comes out of Foothills Christian High School (El Cajon, CA) as the #1 recruit in California according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Sean Miller likes California kids, specifically the #1 recruits from California.

Since 2010, Sean Miller has landed the #1 California prospect (Josiah Turner, Grant Jerrett, Aaron Gordon, Stanley Johnson) with all eyes on #2 PF Ivan Rabb for 2015.

Combine those great names with Sean Miller’s resume and there’s plenty of reasons for TJ Leaf to fall in love with the program. He took an unofficial visit to Tucson last week and an official visit should be set up pretty soon.

For Rich Rodriguez, consider this his most prized recruit thus far at Arizona. And for Sean Miller, another 5-star recruit to help surpass the greatness of Lute.

It will be very interesting to see how the Arizona Wildcats put all of these things into play. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below.
