We are just a few hours away from the 2nd game of the preseason for the Arizona Cardinals as they go against the Minnesota Vikings. Obviously, this is just the preseason and whoever comes out on top, at the end, does not matter but individual performances are significant in terms of who will win a job once the regular season comes around.
Logan Thomas has been receiving a lot of hype because of his performance against the Texans. Thomas had only 1 incomplete pass and was well over 100 yards passing for the game. He played for most of the 2nd half after Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton had their turns.
Thomas even received praise from former NFL quarterback, Ron Jaworksi. Here is the tweet from Adam Schefter in regards to Jaworksi’s high praise for Thomas:
It has been known in the past that Jaworski likes to talk up a lot of different NFL players especially quarterbacks. This has been one criticism of Jaworski in the past few years at ESPN but to consider Logan Thomas as being the best rookie quarterback in week 1 would be a special statement. Other quarterbacks like Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel had impressive performances of their own in week 1 of the preseason, but did not receive the praise that Thomas did.
Wide receiver, John Brown, surprised many people when he has able to find a way to get open numerous times in week 1 of the preseason. Even on plays where Brown was not the primary target, Brown was still able to get open at some point during his routes.
Brown has received some added media attention from outside the Cardinals’ facility but the attention for Brown has been primarily coming from the Cardinals’ organization, especially Cardinals’ General Manager Steve Keim.
From Robert Mays of Grantland.com, Mays notes what Keim recently stated about the young receiver, John Brown:
"“I haven’t seen a rookie come in and do what he’s done — and it’s early still — since Anquan Boldin. This guy came through the first day, and being from Pittsburg State, has uncanny instincts, unbelievable understanding of route concepts, leverage, being in the right spot at the right time. On top of great ball skills, he has unusual speed and explosiveness. You add all that in combination, and it’s amazing this guy who came from Pittsburg State can do this. Through this part of camp, I haven’t seen any of our players cover him, and I think you’d probably be able to put on the Texans tape and realize they didn’t have anybody to cover him.” —Cardinals GM Steve Keim"
Brown must feel good. Especially after the General Manager of your current team gives you high regards when you have not even played in a regular season NFL game yet.
Week two and game two is just around the corner as the Cards travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. Game starts at 5:30 on the west coast and 8:30 on the east coast. Here’s hoping for Thomas, Brown, and the rest of the Arizona Cardinals’ team perform at a high level like they did in week one!
