Anu Solomon Named Starting Quarterback for Arizona Wildcats
By Gabe Encinas
The debacle is over. Redshirt freshman Anu Solomon will lead Rich Rod’s offense for the home opener against UNLV. Solomon beat out Redshirt senior Jesse Scroggins, redshirt junior Jerrard Randall and redshirt sophomore Connor Brewer.
This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as Solomon has been taking most of the first team snaps for quite some time now. Although this is a sign of relief for Arizona fans, the next concern is how efficient Solomon will be running the offense. Another positive, Anu has the potential to be the quarterback of the future, a nice change of pace considering there have been back-to-back one year starters at quarterback.
But Solomon has some weapons at his disposal; Austin Hill, Cayleb Jones, DaVonte Neal, Samajie Grant, Nate Phillips, Trey Griffey, David Richards, Tyrell Johnson and Jon Haden. With this much talent, Solomon should have no problem moving the offense down the field.
The running game is also the next question. Replacing Arizona’s all time leading rusher, Ka’Deem Carey, is no easy task. And there is no true predecessor to follow Carey’s success. With Terris Jones-Grigsby, Jared Baker, Zach Green, Adonis Smith and Nick Wilson, the carries should definitely be split between two or three of them until one of them separates themselves from the rest.
But with just a few days left until kick off, Anu Solomon has the reigns of this offense and has the power to lead Arizona to greatness.
