Cut day has come and gone around the NFL and, like everyone else, the Arizona Cardinals needed to get their roster to 53 by 4PM EST. Several players had their NFL dreams put on hold as they were cut from their respective squad while others had their dreams shine brighter as they survived cut day.

Some noticeable players, like Michael Sam, failed to make the final 53 so who did not make it for the Cards? Let’s check out the list:

RB Zach Bauman, LB Marcus Benard, G Philip Blake, LB Jonathan Brown, WR Dan Buckner, C John Estes, DT Bruce Gaston, WR Brittan Golden, TE Andre Hardy, CB Jimmy Legree, CB Bryan McCann, T Kevin Palmer, RB Jalen Parmele, DT Isaac Sopoaga, G Anthony Steen, S Curtis Taylor, LB Adrian Tracy, DT Christian Tupou, S Anthony Walters and CB Teddy Williams.

Several of these players are people you may never have heard of so let’s mention some of the key cuts.

DT, Isaac Sopoaga, was cut after just being signed a couple of weeks ago. Sopoaga has struggled ever since his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots last season. Sopoaga used to be a beast for the San Francisco 49ers where he would always make an impact in stopping the running game. The Cardinals gave him another chance and, evidently, he just was not good enough to stick with the team.

TE, Andre Hardy, is one of the former basketball players that was cut. Hardy was apart of the Oakland Raiders last season before being released and tagging on with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason. Hardy never made a standout impact during the preseason and, given the depth the Cardinals have at tight end, Hardy became expendable.

G, Anthony Steen, was a former Alabama starter on the offensive line that was also cut today. Steen was a quality starter in college with the power-house, Alabama Crimson Tide, but he became a question mark for the NFL due to his size. He has short arms which is never good for a offenive linemen which makes his potential ceiling in the NFL a low one.

Not too many standout players for the Cardinals that were cut today and that’s a good thing. We never like to see someone get cut who, many believe, could have contributed to the squad this season.

With the final 53 now intact, the 2014 regular season is just under a week away. Now who is ready for some REAL Cardinal football?
