ASU men’s basketball coach Herb Sendek signed a contact extension that will keep him in Tempe through the 2018-19 season.

The news comes prior to the Sun Devils 2014-15 season. The Arizona State Press are reporting Sendek’s current contract was set to expire in June 2016. The eighth-year head coach makes $1.2 million annually, and his latest extension, pending approval from the Arizona Board of Regents, would give him a raise in addition to that base salary.

Sendek was the Pac 10 Coach Of The Year and has lead the Sun Devils to two NCAA tournament berths. One of which came last season which ended in a 87-85 loss in the second round on a buzzer-beating layup  to the No. 7 seed Texas Longhorns. Sendek’s extension would run through the 2018-19 season. His current contract goes through 2016, with an annual salary of $1.2 million.

ASU Sun Devils also extended the contract of women’s basketball coach, Charlie Turner Thorne. Turner Thorne’s extension would go through 2017-18. She is currently under contract through 2014-15.

“Turner Thorne has coached Arizona State for 17 seasons and is the school’s career leader in victories with 325, second-most in Pac-12 history. She took a leave of absence for the 2011-12 season and, after a down year in 2012-13, led the Sun Devils to a 23-10 record and into the second round of the NCAA tournament last season.” As reported by Associated Press.
