Arizona State Handles Colorado 38-24
DJ Foster totaled 200+ all-purpose yards for the second consecutive week in Arizona State’s 38-24 victory over Colorado.
Arizona State improves their record to 3-0 overall and to 1-0 in Pac-12 play with the victory, while the Buffaloes dropped to 1-2 and 0-1 in the Pac-12.
ASU’s season could be in jeopardy after Taylor Kelly left in the second half after sustaining a leg injury. At this time, there has been no set timetable on how long the senior quarterback will be out. Kelly had completed 13 of his 21 passes for 195, three passing touchdowns, and 70 yards rushing with a rushing touchdown before his injury.
Backup quarterback Mike Bercovici may have his name called to start the next game vs. UCLA on September 25. Bercovici went 2/4 for eight yards in relief of Kelly on Saturday.
Foster ran the ball 20 times and compiled 147 rushing yards with a ground score, while also catching four passes for 59 yards. He has taken the nation by storm so far with his incredible offensive numbers and is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Colorado wide receiver Nelson Spruce caught two touchdown passes in the contest. It is the third consecutive game this season that Spruce has had two touchdowns. Spruce’s quarterback, Sefo Liufau, played decent football as well. Liufau finished 31/46 for 278 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The two interceptions thrown by Liufau were the first interceptions forced by the Sun Devil defense in the 2014 season. The defense was able to force three turnovers and three turnovers on downs, but also allowed a season-high 545 yards.
Defensive standout Jordan Simone led the charge with an INT, a forced fumble, and a team-high 13 tackles. Simone was all over the place in the game, delivering big blow after big blow to the Colorado offensive unit.
Arizona State has a bye week next week and will face UCLA, as stated above, on September 25 at Sun Devil Stadium.
