For this Morning Meltdown, let’s take a look into the buzz surrounding the Arizona Wildcats from a player spotlight to the UA Alumnus called up to play for National team.

Tucson.com features an Arizona Wildcat player each week and this week the spotlight is on senior offensive tackle Fabbians Ebbele.

"“Fabbians Ebbele was always taller and bigger than the rest of his friends. He was OK with that — until everyone started telling him he should play football. He liked basketball. He liked playing in the post, with his back to the basket and using his size to get buckets. He wasn’t interested in using his frame to block defenders or get by offensive linemen to make tackles. But the Chicago product was finally convinced to put on the pads and give football a try in the sixth grade. Like several others we’ve talked to about this, he wasn’t a fan at first.By the time he got to Simeon High School, he was all about the gridiron and was named first-team all-Public League by the Chicago Sun Times. Here’s Ebbele’s story:“I started in sixth grade, and I weighed too much to play with the fifth and sixth graders. So they made me play with the seventh and eighth graders, and that’s when I was pretty much like, ‘Yeah, I’m done with football. I think I’m going to go back to basketball.’ But I stuck with it.”"

The University of Arizona Wildcats soccer team will have a representative in a pair of friendlies (exhibtions) between the senior national teams of Mexico and the United States.

"“UA alumnus Jazmin Ponce was selected to the women’s team for the matches in Sandy, Utah on Saturday and in Rochester, N.Y. on Sept. 18. Saturday’s match is set for a 6:30 p.m. MST start and will be shown live on ussoccer.com. The match on Sept. 18 in Rochester will be televised by ESPN2 at 4 p.m. MST.Ponce, a 2014 spring graduate from Arizona, earned All-Pac-12 accolades in the 2012 and 2013 seasons for the Wildcats. In 2013, under current head coach Tony Amato, Ponce flourished, scoring 10 goals and assisting on five others, both career-high totals.”"
