The Arizona Coyotes will be taking on the Calgary Flames tonight in a very special game. Tonight’s preseason game will be taking place in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, capping off an annual event, Hockeyville.

Hockeyville is a four-day event sponsored by Kraft that challenges communities across Canada to show their passion for hockey. Sylvan Lake was this year’s winner chosen to host the event. This year’s Hockeyville event will be a very special one as it will be taking place next to the site of the town’s old rink. In January of this year, the roof of the old rink had caved in due to large amounts of snow collecting on top of the building.  For a town of only 13,000, the old rink was very important to the people of Slyvan Lake.  Only 1,000 people will be attending the game and the winners were all chosen via a lottery system. For people who did not win a ticket, there will be large screens outside showing the game.

Along with hosting the event, the town will be given $100,000. The money will be used to build a new rink for Sylvan Lake.  It will no doubt be a special time for all the players involved and the citizens of Sylvan Lake.

The game will be televised live on the NHL Network at 4PM Arizona time.
