Ron Gardenhire was fired by the Minnesota Twins and is in the market for a manager’s job and there just happens to be an opening in Arizona.

The first official action of the Arizona Diamondbacks newly appointed general manager Dave Stewart was to fire skipper Kirk Gibson.  Now as the play-offs begin the Diamondbacks baseball brain trust can start compiling their list of possible candidates.

Ron Gardenhire will most assuredly be on the short list.

Since coming to the Diamondbacks, Tony La Russa has also said that he plans to rebuild the team from the farm system up.  A rebuilding plan that focuses on developing players within the Arizona Diamondbacks farm system.  After the team develops a core group of players, general manager Dave Stewart can pursue a few key free agents to help the team get to the next level.

More from Arizona Diamondbacks

Until then fans can expect the Diamondbacks to keep the payroll low. and that’s where Rod Gardenhire comes in.

The former Twins skipper is a good fit for Arizona’s rebuilding plan. Ron Gardenhire has a reputation for developing winning teams in a small market, a quality that will certainly appeal to a rebuilding team.  If Gardenhire can help make the Diamondbacks competitive without having to spend a ton on the free agent market that will allow Tony La Russa to have a laser focus on rebuilding the teams farm system.

The Arizona Diamondbacks aren’t the only team that will be vying for Gardenhire’s services.  The Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres have also expressed interest in the former Twins manager.  As the postseason moves forward other teams are likely to join their list of Gardenhire suitors.
