Morning Meltdown – Phoenix Suns Edition

For this Morning Meltdown let’s take a look into some of the buzz surrounding the Phoenix Suns.

Grantland.com’s Jalen Rose and David Jacoby broke down the best backcourt debate taking into account a multitude of factors, including All-Star appearances, playoff runs, All-NBA honors and national team representation. They also threw in the more familiar factors of pure stat production, skills and youth.

"“The duo then rolled out its Top 10 NBA backcourts, in which the Suns’ own Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic ranked third. Rose pinpointed what he felt separated Phoenix’s guards from the majority of the league.“The thing that makes this backcourt unique is they both equally finish well at the hoop. There are a lot of guards that drive to the basket, but they can’t finish. For these guys, it’s up-and-unders. It’s reverse [layups]. It’s putting your shoulder into somebody’s chest and taking the contact, finishing over the top. Both of those players can even dunk the basketball. I like their speed. I like their versatility as it relates to being interchangeable with one another.”Rose added that newcomer Isaiah Thomas will fit in well as a “heat-check guy” in Phoenix’s guard-centric offense. Meanwhile, Jacoby admitted his own lack of foresight heading into Dragic’s career season in 2013-14.”"

When Eric Bledsoe walked his upcourt dribble last season, Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek would ask Bledsoe if he was tired.

"“Bledsoe looked to be made of granite and sprinted like a racehorse, but Hornacek’s point was made then and in his exit conversation with Bledsoe. After not seeing him for more than five months this season, the staff was pleased to find Bledsoe in top shape.“I’ve been working,” Bledsoe said. “Most of the time, I was working on my conditioning. I was trying to stay in shape because Coach Hornacek stayed on me last year about staying in shape so I can stay in the game longer.“I can’t even count how many times Coach would ask (if I was tired). He told me when I came out of the game that I’ve got to get in shape. He’d tell me in practice that I got to get in shape. I couldn’t hear enough of it.”"
