Arizona Wildcats Seek To Remain The Lone Undefeated Team in The Pac-12
By Gabe Encinas
About six weeks ago, it’s safe to say that not one person predicted the Arizona Wildcats to be a top 10 team. Now, they remain atop the conference as the only undefeated team left in the Pac-12 and one of nine undefeated across the country. This is a team of destiny here, as there’s something special going on in the streets of Tucson. For the first time since 1998, Arizona starts out 5-0 and reaches the top 10 since 2010.
Now, the USC Trojans head to town after suffering a loss to ASU on a Hail Mary to end the game. A win would put the Arizona Wildcats in the national conversation and prove that they’re worthy of a top 10 spot, with the hopes of making the College Football Playoff. A loss would bring that Wildcats back down to reality, yet still keep them in contention to win the Pac-12 South.
It might sound like a broken record, but the defense is still the biggest question mark. Can the defense get pressure on USC’s Cody Kessler and not get beat over the top? That’s what we’ll be watching for. We know Anu Solomon and his core of receivers are going to do their thing, but Terris Jones-Grigsby is going to carry the load this weekend, as Nick Wilson is very unlikely to play.
Last week, Arizona went stride for stride against Oregon. And for whatever reason, Arizona has been known to give USC trouble, as their last seven meetings have been decided by 7 points or less, a margin of victory just over four points. Granted, USC has come out ahead in five of the last seven.
With the Arizona Wildcats a (+3) underdog at home, it’s clear that Arizona is still lacking respect from the rest of the nation. But who knows, maybe this team will play up to their ranking as they remain “under the radar”.
