Arizona Coyotes And St. Louis Blues Preview
The Arizona Coyotes will finish off their four game home stand tonight as they host the St. Louis Blues. The Coyotes are riding a two game winning streak and the Blues enter tonight’s game coming off of a 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
The only thing that stood in the way of a Blues win on Thursday night was Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick. The Blues outshot the Kings 43-18 and Quick stopped all of them, including all three shots in the shootout. This will be the Coyotes first look at the Blues this year and it won’t be an easy task. The Blues have been outshooting their opponents this year but haven’t been able to cash in very much as they are 1-1-1 on the young season.

During the 2013-14 season, the Blues took two out of three games from the Coyotes. Blues goalie, Jake Allen is expected to make his season debut against the Coyotes. He hasn’t played in the NHL since April 21, 2013. During the 2012-13 season, Allen went 9-4-1 with a 2.46 goals against average and a .905 save percentage. He spent the 2013-14 season in the American Hockey League where he won 33 games.
The Coyotes are coming off a rather sloppy win against Edmonton. They will look to clean up and improve their play against a good Blues team. Head Coach Dave Tippett had the team working on puck possession in practice following the game against the Oilers. An area in which the Coyotes struggled as they turned the puck over too many times in critical areas. Some of these turnovers lead to Edmonton goals. As for the goaltending, it’s assumed that Mike Smith will start but there has been no official word just yet. “We’re not going to get into a big goaltender controversy every week around here,” Tippett said, according to AZcentral.com.
The Coyotes take on the Blues tonight at 6 p.m. at Gila River Arena.
