Marvin Bagley III takes unofficial visit to Arizona
By Gabe Encinas
In the world of college basketball, it’s never too early to start recruiting. With the #1 recruiting class for 2015, Sean Miller is already onto the class of 2018, headlined by Marvin Bagley. Bagley is just 14 years old, but holds offers from some of the top schools in the country including Arizona and the defending national champion UConn Huskies. Bagley is dubbed by many as the #1 recruit for the class of 2018, standing in at 6-10 190lbs, hailing from basketball powerhouse Corona del Sol (Tempe, Arizona).
Bagley recently took an unofficial visit to Tucson this past weekend to attend the annual Red-Blue game, the first sign of basketball season. The sold out McKale Center seems to have impressed him quite a bit. “Arizona is one of the best environments out there, the Red-Blue game was amazing” Bagley claimed.
Other Red-Blue attendees included 2015 5-star commits Ray Smith (SF), Allonzo Trier (SG) and Justin Simon (PG), potential 2015 5-star recruit Caleb Swanigan (C) and what seems to be Arizona’s top prospect for 2016, 5-star TJ Leaf (PF).
It’s clear that Bagley is the poster child for one-and-done players in this era of college basketball, as his body will certainly be ready for the NBA in four years. At 6-10, he has total control of his body and is extremely quick in transition. With his athleticism and drive, Bagley plays very similar to 2014’s #1 draft NBA draft pick, Andrew Wiggins. His 8th grade highlights are below.
Bagley’s recruitment has hardly just begun, but the unofficial visit to Arizona should set the tone in his much anticipated recruiting process. You better believe that Joe Pasternick, Book Richardson, Damon Stoudamire and Sean Miller will be giving Bagley plenty of attention going forward.
