Arizona Cardinals Make a Statement With Nail-Biter Win

The Arizona Cardinals finished the week with yet another victory. This win was finished in style, and quite the nail-bite. The Cardinals 24-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles literally came down to the last second as the Eagles final shot to the end-zone was with just one second on the clock from Nick Foles to Jordan Matthews who caught the ball but safety Rashad Johnson was able to push him out bounds before he was able to get just one foot down. With this victory, the Cardinals improve to 6-1 and keep their two game lead atop the NFC West.

The biggest talk of Sunday’s game wasn’t just wide receiver John Brown’s 75-yard touchdown to give the Cardinals a late fourth quarter lead of 24-20. Most importantly, Larry Fitzgerald had his first 100-yard game of the season with his seven catches totaling for 170 yards. Every week, one of the key components was always trying to involve Larry Fitzgerald and they rightfully did so, and ended up beating a tough 5-1 Philadelphia team.

More from Arizona Cardinals

People around the league each week always talk about how Carson Palmer isn’t a reliable quarterback, and that he’s passed up his prime, because of his age he won’t perform to his highest ability anymore. Palmer has still only thrown one interception this season, which is something he did a lot of last season, 22 interceptions to be specific. Palmer finished this game with just 20-42 completed passes. However, those 20 catches totaled for 320 yards, and two touchdowns. There were also no interceptions or sacks.

With this victory over the Eagles, the Cardinals are finally becoming a team to be taken serious, and had commentators Chris Myers and Ronde Barber discussing how the Arizona Cardinals are definitely going to be a playoff team and a team to look out for. As said in the previous week, these two games against the Eagles and the Cowboys were going to be a huge test and the Cardinals took down enemy number one. Depending on Monday Night’s game between the Redskins and Cowboys, the Cardinals will know whether or not they’re facing a 7-1 Cowboys team or a 6-2 Cowboys team in Dallas. The Cowboys were just as excited that the Cardinals defeated the Eagles, as an Eagles loss put the Cowboys in first place.

Although a lot of football teams would be comfortable with a two game lead in their division, the Arizona Cardinals are far from being comfortable with their lead. The Cardinals still have two games against the Seahawks, one game against the 49ers in San Francisco and two more games against the Rams remaining on their schedule.

The Cardinals take on the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday, kickoff is at 11:00 a.m. M.S.T.
