Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs: Three Things I Want To See
By Omar Soussi
With the Phoenix Suns beating the Lakers for their home opener, they will have a scary challenge when they face the Spurs on Halloween. I’m not saying if the Suns win, they’ll be contenders for the Western championship and I’m not saying if they lose, they’re out of the playoffs. But when the Phoenix Suns play the San Antonio Spurs, I’m looking for 3 things.
1 How competitive are they against the best?
If the Suns can play great basketball when they face the Spurs, that will give me great hope because the Spurs are the world champions and they have the best complete team in the NBA. Regardless if they win or lose, the Suns need to fight with the Spurs to earn my trust.
2: Can the Suns play solid defense?
One of the issues I have with the Phoenix Suns is their lack of a defense. If they can D up the Spurs I have faith in theri ability to compete. I’m not asking for Bad Boys defense but I am asking for a defense that can at least stop good offensive players occasionally.
3: Will the leaders step up?
I really need to see someone, anyone from the Phoenix Suns offense step up and be the man on that team. We know who the top players are but what we don’t know is who can be the man in that huddle and help lead his squad to a win. If I was a betting man, my money is on Dragic but Eric might take that role. I don’t care who does, I just need someone to take the role and be the man in the Locker room.
Like I said before, I don’t care if this team beats the Spurs, it’s only the second game of the season. I just need to see the team be competitive, play good defense and have a leader step up. If I see that on Halloween, I’ll be satisfied.
