Arizona Coyotes Drop Third Consecutive Game

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-0. With the win, Carolina has picked up their first victory of the season after starting 0-6-2.

The game didn’t start off on the best of notes as the Coyotes took a penalty three minutes into the game. They were able to kill the penalty but the Hurricanes would score the game’s first goal at 3:57, shortly after the penalty expired. The Coyotes would be given two power plays, including 13 seconds of 5 on 3 but were unable to convert. Arizona would continue to be outplayed by the winless Hurricanes and Lindholm would score again and give Carolina a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.

The 2nd period was no better for Arizona, Carolina kept control of the game. It was because of the play by Mike Smith that kept the Coyotes in the game. Smith stopped quality shot after quality shot to keep the score at 2-0. Despite his good play in net, Smith would make a costly mistake out of the net. On the penalty kill, Smith came out of his net to clear the puck but couldn’t get it out of the zone. Carolina scores the third goal on a wide open net. Carolina would take a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Coyotes played somewhat better in the 3rd period. They sustained pressure in the offensive zone and had good shots on goal. They even had a power play, but again, were unable to convert on it. The period would continue to march to the same beat as previous periods and games for Arizona. They were outplayed but able to get a shot off every now then but could not find the back of the net.

The Coyotes will look to salvage the last game of the road trip tomorrow as they take on the Washington Capitals.
