Arizona Coyotes End Three Game Losing Streak

The Arizona Coyotes defeated the Washington Capitals Sunday night 6-5.

Arizona would start the game off right with a power play. The Coyotes would convert as Antoine Vermette would score the first goal of the game. The Capitals would answer with a goal of their own only 49 seconds later. The Capitals would strike again on a defensive zone turnover by Sam Gagner. The goals wouldn’t end there for Washington. Alex Ovechkin would bury another on a power play.

Much like the 1st period, the Coyotes would begin the period by scoring a goal. Michael Stone grabbed the second goal for Arizona just passed four minutes into the 2nd period. The Coyotes really cleaned up their play in this period. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk made big saves to keep Washington at three. Arizona also finished the period with more shots on goal. The Coyotes would go on the power play with just under a minute left in the period. Arizona captin Shane Doan would convert on the power play to tie the game at three with only five seconds left.

The Coyotes would begin the 3rd period on the penalty kill. They were able to kill off Washington’s power play and gain momentum. Sam Gagner would give Arizona the lead with a point blank shot from in front of the net. Under two minutes later, Doan would add another Arizona goal as he took advantage of a Washington turnover. Arizona call up, Tobias Rieder, would grab his first NHL career goal with an assist from Shane Doan on a 2 on 1 to give Arizona a 6-3 lead. The game wouldn’t end without a little drama though.  Joel Ward would score on a Washington power play with just under two minutes left in the game. Troy Brouwer would score another Washington goal with only 28 seconds left in the game.

The Coyotes would hold on and earn the win ending their three game losing streak.
