Miguel Montero Trade Could Be In The Works For Arizona Diamondbacks
By Tony Fischer
After a woeful 2014, the Arizona Diamondbacks may be willing to trade one of their key players to free up room in the free agent budget. Miguel Montero could be on the move according to baseball insider Ken Rosenthal whose sources tell him the club is willing to move their prized catcher.
Late last week Arizona Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall said payroll for the Arizona Diamondbacks probably won’t exceed $100 million. Miguel Montero will be owed $12 million next year and $14 million in each of the two years following 2015. Trading the aging Montero will free up $40 million over the next three years. Money the Diamondbacks could use to purchase younger talent on the free agent market.

That fact that the Diamondbacks are even listening to offers on Miguel Montero speaks volumes. Tony LaRussa and company appear ready to trade away any promise of success in 2015 to build for the future. That could make for an interesting off-season as the Diamondbacks have plenty of pieces that would draw interest on the free agent market.
From Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports Baseball Insider
"The D-Backs, even if they do not move Montero, could be active traders this off-season. They continue to draw interest in their young middle infielders, Chris Owings and Didi Gregorius. Left-hander Wade Miley and center fielder A.J. Pollock also are popular trade targets, but the team is not interested in moving either, sources say."
Possible trade partners for Montero have not yet emerged but you can be certain they will with the MLB baseball free agency period begin in earnest on Tuesday morning.
