Max Scherzer is the number one free agent on the market and promises to get a deal even greater than Zack Greinke‘s $147 million contract with the Dodgers.
So why would the budget conscious Arizona Diamondbacks want a high-priced free agent starting pitcher?
Scherzer is a bon-a-fide ace that the Diamondbacks can build around. He has at least 3 more productive years left in his career and if Dave Stewart get the deal right could be trade bait for the D-backs in 2017-18.
