Arizona Coyotes Winning Streak Snapped
The New York Islanders defeated the Arizona Coyotes 1-0 Saturday night.
The 1st period started off in favor of the Islanders. The Coyotes didn’t register a shot on goal until almost 7 minutes into the game and it came on a power play. The 1st period was uneventful scoring wise. New York had an edge when it came to possession in that period. New York outshot Arizona 10-5 in the 1st.
The 2nd period continued just as the 1st did. The Islanders brought pressure and sustain offensive zone pressure. Mike Smith was playing great and kept the Islanders off the scoreboard, though. The Coyotes just couldn’t get any offensive zone pressure. More times than not, Arizona would have a shot blocked and then pushed out of the zone. The Coyotes only real pressure came on a late power play and they were unable to convert. The period ended 0-0 and New York continued to lead shots on goal 19-11.
The Coyotes began the 3rd period on the power play but were couldn’t convert yet again. Mike Smith kept the Coyotes in the game as long as he could, but the Islanders finally found the back of the net very late in the period. On the rare occasion that Arizona was able to get a shot through, the puck was mostly shot wide or over the net. Arizona had one last chance in the final minute to score with a power play but couldn’t convert.
The Coyotes take on the Dallas Stars on Tuesday as they look to start another winning streak.
