With the red-hot Cardinals winning yet another game this week, the biggest talk of the game was quarterback Carson Palmer tearing his ACL in the fourth quarter, which appeared to be a knee injury. Palmer was carted off, and Drew Stanton was given the role to step in once again.
It was confirmed Monday morning that Palmer will miss the rest of the season due to his ACL tear. Just two days after Palmer signed his 3-year $50 million extension, this occurs. It all seems familiar as in 2005, the Bengals signed Carson Palmer to a $118 million extension, he tore his ACL 10 days after.

Drew Stanton ended up leading the Cardinals to a 31-14 victory over the St.Louis Rams. While Patrick Peterson’s two interceptions were the factors to the Cardinals’ victory, Stanton’s 48-yard touchdown pass to John Brown was definitely in the headlines. This touchdown put the Cardinals ahead with a 17-14 lead. The Rams may not be considered one of the top elite teams in the NFL with a record of just 3-6, they have managed to beat both the Niners and the Seahawks.
Drew Stanton has already taken on the role of starting quarterback this season. However, now he is put in a stressful spot as the stakes are much higher. . He’s forced to fill a spot as the starting quarterback of the team with the best record in the NFL. He’s started three games and has a record of 2-1. The one loss is the only loss the Cardinals have this season, which was against the Denver Broncos. However, it’s not fair to blame Stanton for that loss because he did exit game with injury with third-string rookie quarterback Logan Thomas was forced to come in in one of the most difficult games of the Cardinals Season.
Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians hasn’t been shy about telling media and fans that he has strong confidence in Drew Stanton.
While they mourn over the torn ACL of Carson Palmer, they must think ahead as to how they’ll adjust accordingly, and continue to maintain the best record in the NFL, and most importantly, stay atop the NFC West. Their next opponent is the Detroit Lions who are currently 7-2 and lead the NFC North. The Cardinals look to improve to 9-1 and have their fans assist them in an important win over the Lions as kickoff is set for 2:25 M.S.T at University of Phoenix Stadium.
