Arizona Coyotes Fall To Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames defeated the Arizona Coyotes 5-3.

Arizona started the game off on the wrong foot. They were forced to kill off a penalty almost immediately. The Flames struck first unfortunately. Paul Byron gave the Flames a 1-0 lead. Arizona fought back and tied the game at 1 with a goal courtesy of Shane Doan. The Coyotes were able to finish the period with the game tied 1-1.

Continuing the trend of starting periods off on a bad note, Calgary took the lead very early in the 2^ndperiod. Byron picked up his 2^ndgoal of the night. Calgary added to their lead shortly after. Sean Monahan buried a loose puck in a scrum in the crease giving the Flames a 3-1 lead. Arizona cut into the lead on a power play, Antoine Vermette had a wide open net and didn’t miss the chance. Joe Vitale tied the game with a fluky shot just putting the puck on the net from a bad angle. Calgary would again take the lead, Mark Giordano beat Mike Smith to make it a 4-3 game.

Arizona was able to sustain more offensive zone pressure but they were unable to do anything with it. Mike Smith turned the puck over on a clearing attempt and David Jones cashed in. Jones’ goal would be the nail in the coffin for Arizona.
