The Arizona Coyotes defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-0.

Arizona didn’t have much offensive zone pressure in the 1st period, but they made the most of their rare opportunities. Martin Hanzal beat Ryan Miller to give Arizona a 1-0 lead on their 3rd shot of the game. The Coyotes were on their heels playing defense most of the period, but they played it well. It was much improved from their previous game against Calgary. Arizona took the lead into the 1st intermission despite being outshot 12-3 in the period.

The 2nd period began with more of the same. Vancouver was in control of the game in terms of puck possession. Devan Dubnyk and the defense played great keeping the Canucks off the scoreboard. Martin Hanzal deflected a Tobias Rieder shot into the net for his 2nd goal of the night. It would be reviewed for a high stick but the goal was determined to be good by Toronto. Martin Hanzal wasn’t done yet though. Only nine seconds after his 2nd goal, he scored another, giving Arizona a 3-0 lead. Shane Doan added another goal with 2.7 seconds left in the period. The period ended with Arizona in the lead 4-0, even though they were still being outshot 23-13.

The 3rd period continued the same way as the other periods. The Canucks held the advantage in possession and shots but the Coyotes continued to play stellar defense. Devan Dubnyk also continued his great play in net. Keith Yandle added a power play goal late in the period. Dubnyk and the defense held on to earn the win.
