2014 Bowl Projections: Arizona State Sun Devils To Alamo Bowl

Despite two losses, the Arizona State Sun Devils have already had a strong season.  With just two games left of the schedule, the Sun Devils have piled up 8 wins and a #12 College Football Playoff rankings.

There is a lot of football left to be played but early bowl projections by College Football Guru Phil Steele have the Arizona State Sun Devils slated for the Alamo Bowl on January 2nd.  The Alamo Bowl picks a top team for the PAC 12 against one of the best from the Big 12.

In this match-up the Sun Devils are projected to face the Oklahoma Sooners.

That is a pretty good draw for a team that has two games yet to play.  In recent years the games on January 2nd have almost as much prestige as those played on New Year’s Day, especially now that the National semi-finals are being played on January 1st.

A quick glance of the bowl schedule shows that the games are now spaced appropriately so games are no longer running concurrently.  That is great news for the Sun Devils considering the Alamo Bowl has also been given a favorable 6:45 EST time slot.

The Oklahoma Sooners are a worthy opponent for the Sun Devils.  A victory over the Sooners would represent a strong finish to a potential 11 win season.  The game should also bring a nice pay day for a program that has established themselves as one of the elite in the PAC 12.

Let’s be clear this is an early projection by one of college football foremost prognosticators.  No official invites have been tendered and whether or not ASU can nail down a bid to the Alamo Bowl will rest on whether they can beat in-state rival Arizona in the season finally.

If ASU can’t get a win then they may flip flop with the Wildcats projected bid to the Holiday Bowl on December 27th.
