Arizona State Sun Devils Prepare For Unique Test In Cougars
By Tony Fischer
The Arizona State Sun Devils host the Washington State Cougars at Sun Devil Stadium in a game that still could have championship implications. Despite the upset loss to Oregon State last week the Arizona State Sun Devils are still in the running to win the PAC 12 South. With a 5-2 conference record, ASU is just one game behind USC and can win the PAC 12 south with a little help over the next couple of weeks.
However, Head Coach Todd Graham know that in order to have a chance to play for a PAC 12 Championship they have to win out and that starts with Washington State.
"“Heck, we’re still playing for a conference championship. We’ve still got an opportunity to win the South,” Graham said. “Win the next two games, I believe we’ll be there Dec. 5. That’s all we can do. We can’t worry about anything else.”"
The Cougars are definitely a one-dimensional team. They can pass the ball and catch the ball, thats about it. In fact they lead the nation in passing offense with 477.6 yards per game. One would think just a one-sided offensive attack would be easy to defend but coach Graham believes that the Huskies present a unique and dangerous challenge.
"“They are very explosive offensively and extremely capable of big plays and scoring points,” Graham said of the Cougars. “This offense is very different from anything that we have seen so far, and that makes it a very different kind of week for us because they are not something that we are used to.”"
To win the game the Sun Devils need to ahead of the Cougars early and no let them hang around in the fourth quarter. With a high-powered offense it will be important not to sit on the lead and instead keep the foot on the gas. The cougars can score quickly so it will be critical for the suns to get and keep a big lead. That should be easily done considering the cougars suspect defense.
