Arizona Wildcats Still Alive For Pac-12 South

It all comes down to one game. The Arizona Wildcats are now ranked #12 in both the AP and Coaches poll, while we await the release of the College Football Playoff poll on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Arizona State checks in one spot behind the Wildcats at #13 in both polls. The two are set to face off in Tucson on Friday for the oldest trophy in college football, The Territorial Cup.

For either team to win the Pac-12 South, they need UCLA to lose against Stanford. With a UCLA loss, the winner of the Territorial Cup will represent the Pac-12 South. The #3 Oregon Ducks await in the Pac-12 Championship Game on December 5th at Levi Stadium. Both Arizona and Arizona State will be fighting to finish the regular season with 10 wins, with still a gleam of hope to make the College Football Playoff, with a potential BCS Bowl on the horizon.

Arizona dominated Utah this weekend by a final score of 42-10. Although it was a dominant performance, there is a lot of concern for Arizona fans. Redshirt freshman quarterback Anu Solomon, who has been leading the 5th fastest offense in the country, did not play a single down in the second half, seen wearing a walking boot. Solomon has been playing on a tender ankle for a few weeks now, fighting off the pain to lead his team to victory. We don’t know much about the severity of his injury, but we can only hope that he can come back and play his best on a short week.

Replacing Anu Solomon was redshirt senior and USC transfer Jesse Scroggins. After a few botched snaps, it was all Nick Wilson in the second half of the game, totaling 218 rushing yards on 20 carries for three touchdowns. Arizona is going to need to lean heavily on Nick Wilson to help the offense balance and make Anu’s job a little easier should he be ready to go. If Scroggins gets the start, it’s a complete throw of the dart as to what we see.

Check back in a few days for the Arizona vs Arizona State game preview.
