Why The Arizona Cardinals Shouldn’t Worry Loss To Seahawks
By Omar Soussi
Yesterday was an off night for the Arizona Cardinals, they lost to the Seahawks 19-3. Their offense looked pitiful against the Seahawks and while the defense played excellent, they couldn’t keep the Seahawks from chewing up time and getting yards. The Cards are now only two games ahead in the NFC West and only a game ahead in the NFC.
Fans want to jump off the Arizona Cardinals bandwagon (or really any team’s bandwagon) after a team suffers a loss but now isn’t the time to do it.
Let’s put this loss in perspective.
The Cardinals had to play in Seattle (even Peyton didn’t win there). They also didn’t have Carson Palmer or Larry Fitzgerald available either. Even though the defnese struggled at times the Cards only gave up one touchdown the entire game and it was in the end of the third quarter to practically seal the game away.

Drew Stanton started in Seattle for the first time in his career and to played a team that was fired up after losing to the Chiefs. The Seahawks were also desperate for a win to stay in the playoff hunt. Regardless of what you think of Stanton, he was bound to struggle throughout the game. Which he did, completing 14 of 26 for only 149 measly yards and a pick.
Another big factor in the offensive production was the absence of Larry Fitzgerald. Some think he isn’t elite anymore, but he still is one of the best of all time and still attracts attention from opposing defenses. He was severely missed in that game.
Another reason not to jump off the bandwagon is the Arizona Cardinals defense looked not good, but amazing in the red zone. They sacked Wilson 7 times and forced the Hawks to only one touchdown in five red zone attempts. They also blocked a field goal in the second quarter where the Cardinals had a chance to change the game and score a touchdown but they couldn’t get it done and settle for only a field goal. The Cardinal’s didn’t give up the big plays downfield and forced the Hawks to drive the length of the field.
The Arizona Cardinals still have control of the division. The Seahawks and the 49ers having to play each other twice and the Cardinals one more time. If the can win the remained schedule gives them a great chance to keep a firm grasp on the division. Keeping home field advantage might be tricky considering the play of Dallas and Green Bay but they should be able to do it.
If the Arizona Cardinals defense can keep playing the way they played against the Seahawks and the offense continues to produce as they have before they will be in an excellent position. This week the Arizona Cardinals head to Atlanta to play the Falcons in a game they should win and use to build their confidence back up.
This was a bad loss but it was a loss at Seattle, still considered to be the hardest play to win in the NFL. If they lost to the Seahawks at University of Phoenix Stadium, then you can get worried.
