Make No Mistake The Arizona Cardinals Will Be Ready
By Tony Fischer
When a team has had as much success as the Arizona Cardinals have this season, difficult losses can be tough to put into perspective. Especially when that loss come to a division rival.
So when Seattle Seahawks snapped the Arizona Cardinals winning streak in a 19-3 defensive battle it was understandable that players and coach would be frustrated. Especially when they believe they could have won with better execution.
The Cardinals easily played their worst road game of the year. Missed tackles, blocked punts, turnovers all played major roles in the Cardinals loss. After playing at the top of their game over the last six weeks Tyrann Mathieu says a loss like this can be humbling.
"“It’s humbling. Obviously we were 9-1 and prepared very hard. We understand what those guys want to do to us, and when you’re not able to execute offensively or create turnovers defensively, it is frustrating. We have another game next week. We will forget about this one—we will see those guys when they come back home to us—and we will be ready for them then.”"
Getting ready for next week was a recurring theme in the Arizona Cardinals post game comments. In fact as soon as the clock expired on Sunday in Seattle, head coach Bruce Arian was already applying the lessons learned from the loss and looking ahead to Atlanta.
"…we identified what we did wrong already. We’ll come in tomorrow and watch the film and make the corrections and get ready for Atlanta.”"
The Arizona Cardinal’s players echoed their head coaches comments on the importance of moving forward despite the adversity experienced in Seattle. Safety Deone Bucannon says the only way to do that is for the team to stay together and follow the example set by the veterans.
"“Continue to stay together and continue to play Cardinal football. We are not going to stop—this is not going to affect us in any way. We stay together; that’s the type of team we are. The veterans continue to be in our heads. They understand; they’ve been in these situations before. For younger guys like me, when I see them go onto the next game and they are going to fight, and to know what we need to do prepare the next week, that’s humbling and I am going to follow in line.”"
The Arizona Cardinals travel to Atlanta next week to take on the Falcons in what should be a winnable game. But this is the NFL and winning on the road is no guarantee. If the Cards what to keep their strangle hold on the rest of the NFC they must win this game.
